Summer is the time when we all look forward to checking off bucket list items. With longer days, better weather, and kids off from school—why not? But when you're a busy parent, even those extra hours can leave you feeling like there just aren’t enough in the day.
I’ve always loved a good checklist—it keeps me organized—but sometimes it also makes me feel like I’m constantly falling behind. A few years ago, while trying to untangle some of that pressure, my therapist introduced me to the idea of a “Get-To” List—and it completely shifted my mindset.
A “Get-To” List is a simple but powerful reframe. Instead of being ruled by an endless stream of to-dos, it reminds you that many of the things on your list are privileges that you get to do when you can — opportunities to build the life you care about. You get to do them because they bring meaning, joy, or connection. And the best part? You still get that satisfying sense of accomplishment when you check something off—without the guilt of needing to check off specific number of them.
This summer, I’m not making a bucket list just to stay busy. I’m making a Summer Get-To List—a guide to the little joys I want to soak in with my kids, ways to connect with nature, and moments to truly be present. Whether your list needs a refresh or you're just getting started, the goal is the same: to gently remind yourself to experience more, connect often, and make the most of the season.
Here are a few ideas worth adding to your summer get-to list this year:

About the Author:
Natalia is a mom of 18-month-old fraternal twin boys. She has been a member of DuPage Doubles since 2023. She enjoys traveling with her husband, wellness, spending time with her family and talking about her kids.
Last month I didn’t exactly read One Bad Mother: A Mother’s Search for Meaning in the Police Academy by Megan Williams — let’s be honest, I listened to it while catching up on dishes, folding tiny laundry, and trying to stay awake during nap time. The book’s honesty, grit, and hilarious storytelling felt like a love letter to every overwhelmed mom searching for herself again. Megan’s journey navigating pressures of twin parenthood while applying to the Police Academy reminded me just how easy it is to lose ourselves in caregiving — and how powerful it can be to reclaim even a sliver of space for you.
Each April, we celebrate National Multiple Birth Awareness Month, and this year, Multiples of America announced a theme that couldn’t feel more fitting: “It’s a Balancing Act: Mental Well-Being for Parents of Multiples.” Raising more than one baby at a time multiplies everything—including the mental load. And since you can’t pour from an empty cup, it’s essential to find those little moments that help you reset. Just 15 minutes can make a difference.
This month, I encourage you to take 15 minutes of YOU time—go for a walk, listen to a chapter, sip a hot coffee, or do whatever helps you feel more like yourself.
To help you get started, I pulled together some self-care ideas below—as always, complete with handy Amazon affiliate links that earn DuPage Doubles a small commission (at no extra cost to you) when you shop. It’s an easy way to treat yourself and support your club.
You’re doing something extraordinary—raising multiple humans at once. That’s why your mental health, joy, and well-being matter more than ever. Even 15 minutes of YOU time can help shift your mood and restore your energy. You’re not alone, and you’re doing great.
Happy Multiple Birth Awareness Month from our family to yours.
Recently, I read Atomic Habits by James Clear. If you’re looking for inspiration, you can easily listen to it with a free monthly audiobook available with Amazon Music Unlimited subscription. The central idea of the book is that little adjustments, done consistently, build momentum and create lasting improvements. As a busy parent, this got me thinking about refreshing my space, my routine, and even my mindset in small, manageable ways.
With the days getting longer and that fresh-start spring feeling in the air, now is the perfect time for a spring refresh. This month, I want to share some tips about making simple, easy changes to breathe new life into what you already have, find a few great deals, and make things feel a little lighter and brighter.
I’ve included Amazon affiliate links to my favorite eco-friendly finds for your convenience and inspiration. When you shop through our product links, DuPage Doubles receives a small commission from Amazon, which helps support our club’s operations at no added cost to you.
Let’s jump into the refresh!

3. Refresh Yourself: Simple Ways to Feel Recharged
Last month, our club hosted a watch party to hear from Smadar Zmirin of Twinful Life, who spoke at a Multiples of America webinar about easing the transition to parenthood, especially for parents of multiples. Central to her talk was the RIE (Resources for Infant Educators) Parenting philosophy founded by Magda Gerber and inspired by Emmi Pikler. One of the biggest takeaways? Sometimes, doing less actually means enjoying more – especially as a parent of twins. Instead of constantly trying to structure every moment, RIE encourages parents to slow down, trust our kids' natural development, and let them explore independently.
So why not try this mindset as part of your spring refresh? Simply being present and prioritizing connections can make you feel good inside and out without being overwhelmed. And just like our kids, we thrive when we take care of ourselves in small, meaningful ways!
Self-Care Refresh
4. Refresh Your Space: Keep Clutter Away for Good
A spring refresh isn’t just about tidying up -- it’s about setting up simple systems to keep clutter from creeping back in. The key? Make organization effortless by creating designated spaces for everything, streamlining what you own, and making decluttering a natural habit.
A little organization now means less stress later. And the best part? You don’t have to tackle everything at once -- just a few smart systems can keep clutter from creeping back in. Whether it’s setting up a system for rotating seasonal items or keeping a donation bin handy, small steps make all the difference in creating a home that feels lighter and more manageable.
Smart Storage Solutions
Easy Habits to Stay Organized
A clutter-free home doesn’t require perfection -- just small, consistent habits to keep things in check!
Ready to Refresh?
Spring is all about fresh starts, and your home, wardrobe, and mindset deserve one, too! So go ahead -- declutter, refresh, and maybe even score some amazing deals. And don’t forget -- DuPage Doubles Resale is March 15-16! Join our Resale Facebook group and save the date to snag some spring finds before they’re gone!
Whenever I hang out with my fellow moms, I’m reminded that mom advice is the best. There’s just nothing like it. In January, we had so many incredible DuPage Doubles events where parents and families of twins at all stages could catch up: we laughed over charcuterie at our board party, cheered on knights at Medieval Times, shared French pastries, coffee, and conversations at our new parents' night, and had a fun book club discussion.
In addition to being tons of fun, these moments were packed with amazing mom tips for personal wellness - the kind that are just too good to keep to myself. From self-care rituals that make winter feel a little less blah to genius hacks that help life run a little smoother, I walked away with a list of small-but-mighty favorites that are making my February better.
So, let’s talk about winter wellness. Not the overwhelming, full-reset kind – just some of our club’s favorite little things that help us feel a bit better, inside and out. For convenience, I’ve included some Amazon Affiliate links to our favorite products. When you shop through these links, DuPage Doubles receives a small commission from Amazon at no added cost to you. We use these proceeds to help support our club’s operations.
1. The Self-Care Sunday, Featuring “Everything” Shower
If you haven’t heard of this, it’s a perfect Sunday self-care ritual where you take a shower and do all the things—hair mask, body scrub, exfoliation, the works. It’s the reset button of self-care. Light a candle, put on a playlist, and pretend your bathroom is a spa for 20 minutes. Here are our club’s favorite products to help you do it:
● Avatara Drink Up Facial Masks
● Chapstick with delightful tropical flavors
● Raw Sugar Hair Care Set - especially the hair mask!
● Aveeno Foot and Hand Mask Bundle
● The Ordinary Lightweight Body Lotion
● L’Oreal Double Extend Mascara to look glam every day after your self-care Sunday.
2. Cozy, Nourishing Drinks
Winter in the Midwest calls for something comforting but still fresh. This Warm Pear & Ginger Smoothie is lightly spiced, creamy, and soothing – warming you up without being too heavy. The pear adds natural sweetness, the ginger brings a little zing (and immune support!), and the coconut milk makes it ultra-smooth.
Warm Pear & Ginger Smoothie Recipe
Ingredients:
● 1 ripe pear, chopped
● 1⁄2-inch piece of fresh ginger, peeled & minced
● 1⁄2 cup warm coconut milk (or regular milk)
● 1⁄4 cup Greek yogurt (for protein & creaminess)
● 1⁄2 tsp cinnamon
● 1 tsp honey or maple syrup (optional)
● 1 tbsp flax or chia seeds (optional, for extra fiber & omega-3s)
Instructions:
This smoothie is simple, satisfying, and packed with seasonal ingredients that make winter feel a little less dreary. It’s perfect for a nourishing start to the day, a cozy afternoon pick-me-up, or even a light dessert.
Our club’s kitchen favorites to make it even easier include:
● Cuisinart Kitchen Knife Set perfect for quick and easy chopping, peeling, and coring. Plus, the fun colors make it easy to grab the right knife for the job!
● Swedish Kitchen Cloths are a perfect replacement for paper towels to wipe up any juice spills or sticky fingers.
● Skoy Non-Scratch Dish Scrubber Pads make dishwashing a breeze, and the best part? They don’t trap odors like traditional sponges!
3. A Mid-Winter Refresh for Your Car
If you’re a parent—especially a parent of multiples—you probably spend a lot of time driving people around. Here are our favorite finds that make car time easier and much less messy:
4. A Good Book & Something Just for You
When was the last time you read something just for fun?
Winter can feel long, but it doesn’t have to be boring. Whether it’s an “everything” shower, a cozy drink, or a little refresh for your space, these small things can make a big difference.
And if you’ve got a favorite February pick-me-up, share it with us! We’re always looking for more ways to make this season a little more fun, a little more relaxing, and a little less February.
The holidays are a whirlwind of joy and chaos, especially for parents juggling the needs of multiple kids across different ages. As a mom of twin toddlers, I know firsthand that the joy of the season comes from more than just gifts and decorations—it’s about finding those small, magical moments of connection.
This time last year, my boys were six months old, and my favorite holiday memories came from the most unexpected places. During the holidays, what started as the dread of waking in the middle of the night turned into a cherished memory of snuggles under our little pre-lit Christmas tree. I vividly remember my sons gazing in awe as the lights swirled across the ceiling in mesmerizing patterns.
Another favorite memory was attending DuPage Doubles’ Cookies with Santa. As a first-time parent, I was terrified of the logistics of venturing out of the house with two babies, let alone attending an event. However, as soon as we arrived, we were greeted with such warmth by a room full of people who understood exactly what we were going through. There was no judgment—just encouragement to enjoy the moment.
We shared a hilarious connection with our newfound friends as we all tried to wrangle two babies into a photo with Santa (and, of course, one of mine inevitably tried to grab Santa’s beard!). It was chaotic, but also a moment of pure joy.
No matter the age, the holidays are a chance to celebrate togetherness, even amidst the beautiful mess of real life. Here’s your ultimate guide with ideas for gifts, activities, and treats to bring a little sparkle to the season for every age group!
Before we dive in, a quick note, this guide includes Amazon Affiliate links, which means DuPage Doubles earns a small commission on purchases made through these links. We use the funds to help support our club’s activities with no added cost to you. Featured products are independently chosen based on our personal experiences, and we receive no concessions from manufacturers. You’ll also find links to holiday events my family has enjoyed; DuPage Doubles is not affiliated with these.
Please remember, you know what works best for your family, so use this guide as inspiration and make purchase decisions accordingly. I hope it inspires joyful holiday moments for your family!
